Evaluation of Pilot Deployment of Portable Visual Barriers to Reduce Impact During Freeway Crashes |
摘要: |
The major objectives of this project include the following: (1) perform a comprehensive literature review regarding the impact of rubbernecking on traffic mobility and safety and potential countermeasures to prevent rubbernecking; identify types of portable visual barriers (PVBs) available and examine their potential use; (2) plan, coordinate, and conduct a pilot deployment of an approved PVB via Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Road Rangers operations to reduce rubbernecking due to freeway crashes; (3) perform in-depth data analyses to evaluate the effectiveness and benefits of the deployment of PVBs to reduce freeway traffic congestion and potential secondary crashes; (4) develop implementation guidelines on when, who, where, and how to deploy PVBs; document analysis results and research findings and provide recommendations for future deployments in Florida. |
