| 摘要： | The transportation industry has seen the proven benefits of cargo containerization in other modes of transportation. The civilian air sector has gone to containerization. Unlike the civilian counterparts, the Air Force did not make the transition to containers, even though containers have proven themselves to be more economical and efficient in both the surface transportation and civilian air cargo transportation industries. Limited military studies validate the improved efficiency of air cargo containerization, but obstacles remain. This study addresses the possible use of air intermodal containers to replace the current 463L pallet system. The air intermodal container is examined based on the benefits, feasibility, and constraints associated with its use. The Department of Defense must continue to examine the transportation process. Implementing an air cargo containerization program without investigating collateral effects on other transportation systems may suboptimize the overall system. |
