摘要: Present and projected commercial activities in Kahului Harbor, Maui, HI, indicate that new berths for barge and passenger ship operations will be needed. The U.S. Army Engineer District, Honolulu, in coordination with the Harbors Division, Department of Transportation, State of Hawaii, requested numerical (computer) model studies in support of long-term planning. A numerical model, validated with field measurements for short waves (wind waves and swell) and long waves (harbor oscillations), was used to evaluate the technical feasibility of three alternative modifications to the harbor, including the Kahului Commercial Harbor 2025 Master Plan. Model results were compared to experience in the existing harbor and to general criteria for operational acceptability.
