Evaluation of Penetrating Sealers for Concrete TR-765
项目名称: Evaluation of Penetrating Sealers for Concrete TR-765
摘要: Joints in a rigid pavement can act as local reservoirs trapping deicing salts and moisture. Such a harsh micro-environment inside the joints impacts the durability of concrete in cut joint surfaces, resulting in premature distress even in cases where the bulk of pavement exhibits proper durability against frost action and chemical attack by deicing salts. The use of sealers can be considered an effective means for enhancing joint durability. However, with the growing interest in the use of concrete sealers, there has been an increase in the number of manufacturers, types of sealers, and commercial products available. This has resulted in problems for the owner agencies who lack the robust tools to evaluate such products. The work presented in this research proposal addresses the effect of sealers on the durability of joints in Iowas rigid pavements, as well as proposing testing protocols for the evaluation of the sealer materials long-term durability.
