摘要：	The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) lets approximately 300 projects annually that include paving related work. Most of these projects include the ride quality specification as outlined in Standard Specification Item 585, Ride Quality for Pavement Surfaces. While inclusion of Item 585 occurs throughout the state, the selection of pay schedule and enforcement of the specification varies widely within TxDOT. In addition, the bonus/penalty structure within Item 585 was developed over 13 years ago. Objectives for this project [1.] Conduct a synthesis of ride quality selection and enforcement. [2.] Determine an estimate of the amount of ride quality bonus paid by TxDOT annually. [3.] Perform an analysis on various paving projects to investigate ride quality improvement. [4.] Establish a decision framework to assist districts in selecting and enforcing the most appropriate ride quality pay schedule. [5.] Evaluate modifications to the bonus/penalty structure within the specification. [6.] Investigate whether or not adjustments can be made to the bonus/penalty structure to tighten the specification in a way that smoother pavements will be achieved throughout the state. [7.] Investigate establishing separate bonus/penalty structures for flexible pavements and rigid pavements.
