The Greater Buffalo-Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC) and the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC) have built a forward-looking plan to deploy a multi-agency, technology-enabled, integrated regional mobility management system. Key amongst their goals are expanding regional smart mobility and providing travelers with enhanced real-time information. iCone Products (iPL), LLC, has developed technologies for highway operators which include electronically marking road work activities so that they can be included in traffic management efforts and individual vehicle navigation choices. The goal of this project is to demonstrate the iPL connected technologies in Western New York, making the region an example of how enhanced traveler information will provide work zone safety and enable travelers to leverage smart mobility tools to optimize each trip. The project will equip the highway maintenance workers in the GBNRTC region with iPLs connected technologies. This equipment will insure that the activities of maintenance and construction workers are part of NITTECs active traffic management strategies, as well as part of the smart
routing coming from private sector navigation applications such as Waze and HERE. Proposed Actions: The GBNRTC includes two counties, 64 municipalities and several other agencies; each of which have maintenance crews routinely working in and around traffic.
⦁ This project will equip many of these crews with iPL connected technologies so they can be marked on NITTECs traffic management systems, as well as private systems.
⦁ Coordinated outreach where iPL and the GBNRTC will hold a series of seminars for the member agencies. The seminars will explain the technologies, their benefits, how they work, and how other entities are using them to their benefit. The safety, mobility, and cost benefits for the region, including the mobility and safety aspects, will be heavily stressed.
⦁ After each member agency has been briefed, the team will assess the wants and needs of each member and help them select those technologies which will fit both their needs and the goals of the GBNRTC. |
