Kentucky State Police provides a feature‐rich crash access tool with public and private (secure) access. The secure portal supports tabulation and rudimentary analysis. The KYOPS system is also undergoing a major upgrade, which will enhance public and private access to crash data. Despite these major developments, advanced crash analysis can require significant data post‐processing. For example, KYTC
routinely monitors lane departure, cable crossover, and other crash types. Identification of these crash types are based on complex algorithms that rely on several crash and roadway data elements. They are stored as crash flags that are easy to query. Many of these flags are based on research, and new flags often include analysis based on the Highway Safety Manual (HSM). |
