In the first stage of Minnesota Transportation Finance Database (MNTDF) project, we compiled multiple longitudinal data about Minnesotas transportation finance, including sources of transportation revenue contributed from multiple levels of government and the allocation of transportation funding by modes and locations. In some preliminary analyses, we showed the change of transportation funding in Minnesota over time, both in inflation-adjusted dollar amounts and as a share of statewide gross domestic product (GDP).
In the second stage, in addition to maintaining and updating the information assembled in the first stage, the work examined how Minnesota compares to other states in the level of transportation funding though a cost-adjusted measure of transportation funding.
Work in these previous stages included compiling data from more than a dozen sources, launching the database website, and conducting example analyses to demonstrate how the database may be used. In this year, we will complete a re-design of the database website, which will allow more functionality and to enhance user experiences. In the new website we plan to continuously update and expand the database, to link the Minnesota data to national and international benchmarks to facilitate comparison, and to further promote engagement with policymakers, researchers, and the general public. We will also complete and release two database reports, including Minnesota Transportation Funding Redistribution (2009-2015) and Minnesota Mobility and Transportation Funding Trends (2009-2015). |
