Evaluation of Service Life Design of Bridges
项目名称: Evaluation of Service Life Design of Bridges
摘要: This project will collect behavior information for two uniquely designed bridges on I35 and compare the impact of used service life design procedures. The project will also collect information needed to complete service life designs of other bridges. This will be done using a specific system known as Bridge Engineering Condition Assessment System (BECAS) Developed by Iowa State University through collaboration with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and others. The BECAS hardware platform is built using commercially available, off-the-shelf hardware components coupled with a sensor network custom designed for the specific monitoring need. The basic data acquisition system consists of the Campbell Scientific CR9000x data logger using the high capability CR9052 module which has the on-board filtering needed when running high-speed data acquisition. Other hardware components include a typical computer, a network switch, cellular communications, and a IP-based power switch. As mentioned before, the BECAS platform can accommodate most any sensing system. However, regardless of the application every BECAS deployment utilizes electrical resistance strain sensors. The BECAS hardware and software systems will be deployed on the subject bridges with instrumentation placed in key locations. For a general understanding of global bridge behavior (and changes to that behavior), instrumentation will be installed throughout the bridge superstructures. Additionally, with the focus of service life design philosophies targeting changes in deck designs, instrumentation will be installed at key areas in the deck. Beginning in 2016 two side-by-side bridges will be constructed on Interstate 35 - one using conventional design procedures and one using service life design procedures (to be constructed in 2018). Following construction of the bridges, the structural monitoring system (BECAS) will be installed to collect environmental and performance data.
