Unbound Material Characterization for Pavement ME Implementation in Idaho
摘要:
This project will develop a database with appropriate unbound material (aggregate and soil) properties for direct input during mechanistic empirical (ME) design of pavements in Idaho. Correlations will be developed between resillient modulus and index properties to check the accuracy of correlations currently used during Level 2 and Level 3 design efforts of ME. These objectives will be accomplished by collecting samples of aggregate types being used in different pavement projects under construction (2 projects per district) which will be used for laboratory testing. The same will be done with common soil types with 2 soil types per district used for laboratory testing. The database developed through this project will be used by the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) engineers to select appropriate unbound material properties during ME design of new and rehabilitated pavement sections. This will eliminate the degree of uncertainty associated with unbound material properties during the pavement design process and will lead to cost-effective design alternatives.
