V2X: Bringing Bikes into the Mix
项目名称: V2X: Bringing Bikes into the Mix
摘要: The project objective is to run a pilot study that adds bikes to the vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) conversation. Working with the City of Eugene, a bike signal on a heavily traveled corridor will be enhanced with a broadcast device that provides information on the state of the in-pavement bike-loop: triggered and count-down in progress; off and no trigger detected. As a complement, the project will design, program and install an on-bike information system that uses inexpensive (under $50), off-the-shelf hardware and is programmed to recognize the broadcast information and provide personalized delivery of that information to the rider. The project team will collect data and incrementally refine the design based on 50 participants who are regular users of the corridor and bike-signal as well as two other bike-riding populations: those in the Uhlhorn apartments (a ShelterCare facility) and those in the Community Living Program (part of the 4j Transition Education Network). The project touches on 3 key themes: (1) bringing bikes into the V2X mix, (2) using technology in an inclusive way, and (3) providing personalized transportation information systems, tailorable by the end-user. One important product of this project will be a public (github) site that provides both researchers and city transportation staff with enough information to replicate the project. The same site will allow the general bike riding population of Eugene to experiment with their own custom on-bike devices.
