Current analysis and operation of friction isolators relies on data from outdated testing protocols and models. Recent full scale non-standardized tests on such devices emphasized the importance of phenomena, such as self heating, asynchronous sliding, and moment-shear interaction, which are still inadequately characterized and therefore neglected. This project is aimed at establishing cost-effective comprehensive testing protocols, models and design specifications, specifically developed to reflect the most recent experimental observations. The deliverables of this project will constitute immediately usable tools to enhance quality of the qualification-analysis-design process of protection systems through friction isolators. |
