MODELING AND ANALYZING THE IMPACT OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES ON LIVABILITY IN ARTERIAL CORRIDORS 2ND PHASE: FOCUS ON PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
项目名称: MODELING AND ANALYZING THE IMPACT OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES ON LIVABILITY IN ARTERIAL CORRIDORS 2ND PHASE: FOCUS ON PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
摘要: Transportation corridors are complex systems. Tradeoffs, particularly in terms of traffic mobility, transit performance, accessibility, and pedestrian interactions are not well understood. The first phase of this project have examined the joint impacts of SCATS (an adaptive traffic signal system) and TSP (transit signal priority) on transit operations and emissions. Both these technologies (SCATS and TSP) have the potential to improve livability by reducing transit delays and smoothing traffic flow, yet the focus of SCATS and TSP is mainly on vehicles and pedestrians are not considered in their performance measures. The second phase of this project focuses on pedestrian level of service. The research takes place along a severely congested suburban arterial where: (a) there have been pedestrian complaints about long pedestrian wait times at intersections during peak traffic periods and (b) some intersections (signalized and unsignalized) along this corridor are among the 100 top crash locations in the City of Portland. This research integrates several data sources to provide a better understanding of the tradeoffs between traffic mobility and pedestrian level of service.
