Micro-Analysis of Collisions in Crash Clusters: Creating Crash Patterns and Conducting a Driver Simulation Study |
摘要: |
One of the studies that were conducted in the first phase of funding by the Center was titled Analyzing Crash Clusters Near Senior Destination Sites Using a GIS Approach. Using the geographic information system (GIS) shapefiles for the elderly crashes, the study identified high crash clusters for 10 counties in Florida, most of which were listed as priority counties by the Safe Mobility for Life Coalition. This proposed study is the second phase which is intended to use the results of phase 1 in conducting an in-depth crash study in a crash by crash basis (microanalysis) in order to develop elderly crash patterns, create possible countermeasures, and examine the effectiveness of those countermeasures by using a driving simulator approach. The findings of this study will assist state and local safety officials in their strategic planning efforts for developing appropriate intervention and prevention programs for various roadway conditions in order to improve safety and enhance mobility for aging road users. |
