How do state departments of transportation solve their most pressing problems. How do American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) committees get the information they need for the Associations standards, guides, and specifications. For more than 40 years, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program has been an important part of the answer. Because of the dynamic nature of U.S. transportation systems, state departments of transportation (DOTs) are always facing new, usually complex challenges. In response, the states turn to the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) to focus some of the best minds in transportation on collaborative research that leads to far-reaching solutions. NCHRP concentrates on the nations critical transportation issues, producing research findings that guide practice in U.S. transportation and that result in safer roads, easier travel, and substantial savings of taxpayer dollars. |
