| 摘要： | There were more than 4 1/4 million commercial motor vehicle (CMV) crossings from Mexico into the United States recorded by the U.S. Customs Service (Customs) in federal fiscal year 1999. The purpose of this research effort is to estimate the size of the population of commercial motor vehicles operating in cross-border movements of cargo at the United States/Mexico border. Several methods have been employed to derive estimates of the CMVs operating in the border region. The most prominent data collection efforts related to motor carrier activities in the border zone are being undertaken by the U.S. Customs Service. This summary report discusses three different approaches that have been used to estimate the size of the commercial vehicle fleet at the Southwest Border. |
