| 摘要： | Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA's) Office of R&D sought an independent view of future directions for the R&D program and asked for assistance from the committee that was already familiar with the program. FRA wanted an outreach effort that would include a broader range of voices than has contributed to the R&D planning process in the past. Research funds are scarce, and FRA sought guidance on how resources might be used most wisely to benefit rail transportation. To engage a broad range of R&D program customers and stakeholders, individuals with many different perspectives--passenger, freight, public sector, private sector, safety, engineering, economics, and so on--were invited to participate in the Workshop on Research to Enhance Rail Network Performance, held on April 5 and 6, 2006, in Washington, D.C., and structured so that all participants had an opportunity to voice their views on strategic research directions. / Availability Note: Order this product from NTIS by: phone at 1-800-553-NTIS (U.S. customers); (703)605-6000 (other countries); fax at (703)605-6900; and email at orders@ntis.gov.
