The twin city ports of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, Ml, are a small mixed-use harbor that sees many recreational vessels as well as commercial vessels with cement and aggregate. Due to its location on Lake Michigan as well as sitting at the confluence of two rivers, the harbor is prone to shoaling and needs frequent dredging. The 2022 dredge contract for the inner harbor was awarded to Roen Salvage of Sturgeon Bay, Wl, and the company deployed the tug Stephan M. Asher, Derrick Barge 3, and material barges A5 and A6. Derrick Barge 3 carries a Manitowoc 3950 crawler crane with assorted buckets, hooks, and lifting accessories. Before any work started, the harbor was surveyed by both the Army Corps of Engineers and Roen Salvage crews who determined what work was needed. |
