This investigation was conducted to systematically analyze the cation exchange characteristics of a conventional GCL as a function of time and concentration of hydration fluids at 20℃ (68°F). Tests were conducted on 150 × 150 mm (5.9 × 5.9 inch) square specimens of the GCL, which was a medium-weight needle-punched nonwoven-nonwoven GCL product with granular bentonite. The GCL specimens were hydrated over eight conditioning periods: 4 hours, 8 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 4 days, 8 days, 16 days and 32 days in four hydration solutions: DI water and 2 mM, 50 mM and 200 mM CaCl_2 solutions. |
