Since the Transportation Journal's inception in 1961, the publication has featured more than 140 aviation-themed articles. Regulation and deregulation, globalization, demand growth, oil crises, political changes, terrorist attacks, epidemics, and pandemics ... a long list of events and developments have shaped-and continue to shape and reshape-the airline industry. With this constant change comes a need to continually re-evaluate the findings of prior literature and seize new research opportunities regarding economic, policy, managerial, and operational issues in the broader aviation sector. The purpose of this special issue on air transportation is to highlight current research, outline potential avenues for further research, provide insights into relevant considerations in the air transportation industry, and highlight recent publications that may inspire academics, policymakers, and practitioners alike. To this end, this special issue includes four articles. |
