In adopting the 2021-2023 ITE Strategic Plan, the International Board of Direction (IBOD) committed the organization to continuing to grow as a "Community of Transportation Professionals." Under the pillar of Membership, the IBOD established a goal of broadening ITE's membership and being the "preferred choice for members from all disciplines at all stages of their careers." A specific strategy to "develop the foundation for successfully recruiting and engaging planners in membership" was also identified. The IBOD decision to focus on transportation planners during this Strategic Plan was based on the fact that currently, about 1,000 ITE members-seven percent-identify as transportation planners, either by their title, or the PTP (Professional Transportation Planner) or AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) designation. We know that there are also engineers by trade who work in planning and believe that many more members are active in the field. Building from this position of relative strength, the IBOD is seeking to create an environment that better serves our existing members, and attracts more planners to join ITE. |
