Beginning in 2018, ITE developed a series of 3-year Strategic Plans to guide the direction of the organization. With leadership from the International Board of Direction, the active participation of volunteer leaders at all levels of the organization, and the support of the ITE professional staff, these strategic plans have shaped the direction of the organization while providing the flexibility to respond to changing conditions and new opportunities. These plans laid the groundwork for the ONE ITE initiative, helped ITE thrive during COVID-19, and have resulted in the highest membership in our 93-year history. In early January, a new Strategic Planning Committee (see sidebar on page 45) was appointed by International President Rosana Correa, P.E., PTOE (F) to develop the next Strategic Plan for the years 2024-2026. This Committee was chaired by ITE Past President Alyssa Rodriguez, P.E., PTOE (F) and supported by ITE executive staff. Committee participants were selected to represent the spectrum of ITE members from both the private and public sectors-elected leadership, Council and Committee leaders, planners, and engineers. This article provides an overview of the development of the new Strategic Plan and is accompanied by a summary of the new plan. The Committee started with an evaluation of the current Strategic Plan and an identification of in-progress initiatives and activities considered for carryover to the new Strategic Plan. Direct member input from focus groups of elected leaders conducted late in 2022, responses to the 2023 all member survey, and listening sessions with invited groups of younger members at 2023 District Meetings provided the foundation for this new plan. The Committee identified a long list of potential goals and actions in three areas: membership, technical, and institutional/organizational. Through a series of virtual meetings of the full Committee and three subgroups, these rough-draft concepts were winnowed down and refined into a set of potential goals and strategies that were presented to the ITE International Board of Direction (IBOD) at its May meeting. Input from the IBOD provided the Committee with the guidance needed to clarify and refine these initial concepts and prepare a final draft, which was reviewed and approved by the IBOD at its meeting in August in conjunction with the ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibition. |
