ITE JOURNAL: Tell us more about how you got into the transportation field and ended up where you are now at Colliers Engineering & Design. MCAVOY: Coming out of college with my Civil Engineering degree, I actually had no idea what field I wanted to pursue! I'm someone who really enjoys immediate feedback, so I wanted to enter into a field where there was potential for quick turnarounds on designs and have the ability to see my designs implemented in the field; transportation engineering was the perfect industry for this. My favorite part about being involved with transportation is that it's something that affects mostly everyone. When I tell people that I'm a traffic engineer, they often tend to ask a lot of questions. The most common question I get asked is "Are pedestrian pushbuttons fake?" It's rewarding to have answers and help them understand how traffic signal systems and other transportation related elements work. |
