moveDC is Washington DC, USA's long-range transportation plan, established in 2019, with the goals of safety, equity, mobility, project delivery, sustainability, and enjoyable spaces. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) aims to reach 75 percent non-auto commuter trips taken by residents. This is a climate adaptation strategy aligned with Sustainable DCs goals. Two strategies in the plan are Bus Priority Program and Bicycle Priority Network. The Bus Priority Program aims to improve bus service in the District with faster and better conditions. The Bike Priority Network focuses on existing facilities, proposed routes, and recently identified gaps and access needs. Combined with other moveDC programs, these two plans will increase the use of active modes of transportation, reduce vehicle miles traveled (VMT), and provide residents and visitors with multi-choice traveling decisions. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser's 2021 budget included $36 million USD for Protected Bike Lanes (PBLs) and $102 million USD over 6 years for transit projects. |
