Electrification in transportation is becoming increasingly widespread as nations and jurisdictions around the world seek to reduce the impact of vehicles to reduce climate changing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). In the United States, the transportation sector is widely responsibly for GHGs-according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it makes up 29 percent of total U.S. GHG emissions.1 More than 94 percent of the fuel used for transportation is petroleum based, which includes primarily gasoline and diesel. With a goal of zero-net emissions by 2050, the United States must seek to reduce these GHGs on a large scale. |
