摘要: AS GOVERNMENTS around the world pursue stringent decarbonisation targets with increasingly ambitious deadlines, it has never been clearer what a pivotal role public transport has to play. But, with personal mobility solutions - from e-scooters to electric cars, and even autonomous vehicles - developing rapidly, mass transit operators can decarbonise, deliver efficient operations and delight their passengers through innovative approaches within an existing technology area: connectivity. Better connected vehicles have the potential to revolutionise rail, bus and other public transport in ways which will be beneficial to operators, passengers and the planet alike. The 5G Edge Active Antenna pairs a jointly developed McLaren Applied and Huber+Suhner antenna with McLaren Applied's F1-derived Fleet Connect and edge platform systems. By utilising cutting-edge componentry 1. including an edge computing module, modem and eSIM capability embedded within the antenna 2. all RF cables and routers found in trains today are replaced with a single ethernet connection. Add to this up to four times faster download and 10 times faster upload speeds, this lighter, easier to install and more economical solution not only saves space and weight - and, therefore, fuel and cost - but simultaneously improves connectivity and eases the transition to 5G.
