Guinae Aluminum Products Company (GAPCO), through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Boke Alumina Corporation (BAC), is proposing to construct a new alumina refinery adjacent to existing mining operations near Sangaredi, in the Republic of Guinea., The capacity of the refinery is projected to be 2.6 million tons per year (mtpy) at start-up, with potential for two additional 1.3 mtpy expansions to bring the total refinery capacity to 5.2 mtpy at buildout. The alumina produced at the new refinery will be transported approximately 136 kilometers by rail to the Port of Kamsar. The existing Port will require new facilities to receive, store, and export large quantities of alumina, as well as to import, store, and transfer required fuel and inputs to the refinery such as coal, fuel oil, and caustic soda. Additionally, provisions may have to be made at the existing Port for the import of other construction-related cargos. |
