This TRB E-Circular documents the proceedings of the workshop, Using Simulation to Evaluate Impacts of Airport Security, held on January 12, 2003. The workshop organized jointly by the TRB Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Protection- Subcommittee on System Integration and Management/Architecture (A5021-2), and the Committee on Airfield and Airspace Capacity and Delay (A1J05), and co-sponsored by the Committee on Airport Terminals and Ground Transportation (A1J04). The primary objective of this workshop was to present, demonstrate, and discuss the passenger and baggage screening simulation techniques used to comply with the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) congressional mandate to implement the new airport security measures stipulated by the Transportation Security Act of 2001 to all U.S. commercial airports. The workshop was a hands-on, two-way discussion, interactive activity aimed at providing a better understanding of how simulation techniques could be employed to evaluate impacts of the TSA security requirements for passenger and baggage screening on airport operations performance and terminal space requirements. |
