Alcohol related fatalities are defined as fatalities that occur in crashes where at least one driver or nonoccupant (pedestrian or pedal-cyclist) involved in the crash has a positive Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) value. This report presents estimates of alcohol involvement in fatal traffic crashes that occurred during 2003. The data are abstracted from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and represent a combination of actual Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) test results and estimated BAC distributions when the BAC test results are not available. Estimates of alcohol involvement have been presented along various categories of interest like Driver Age, Gender and crash characteristics like rural/urban, single-vehicle/multiple vehicle crash comparisons. Descriptive measures like the mean and median BAC values are provided. Also, continuous BAC distributions are provided for each of the categories. |
