The trucking industry's average transaction prices dropped 7.4% over the three-month period ending July 2023 compared to a year earlier. That was the fourth consecutive price decline. Prices in local trucking and long-distance LTL and TL have all been falling at an accelerating pace. What's interesting is how fast this has been happening. It took only four months for LTL to go from a 0.9% price decline to an 8.7% deflation rate in July, and five months for local trucking prices to go from a 1.2% price drop to a 17.8% deflation rate in July. Over seven months, TL tags also moved from negative 0.4% to negative 22.2%. But it won't last long as inflation will return in 2024. |
