The Mack-Blackwell Transportation Center (MBIC) is partnering with Kimley-Horn and Cambridge Systematic to develop a freeway management system (FMS) deployment plan for central Arkansas and an ITS Architecture and Deployment Plan for the West Memphis, Pine Bluff and Fort Smith, Arkansas regions. The project is being contracted by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, and no MBTC federal grant money is being used. The FMS Deployment Plan includes the selection of three corridors for improvement. The project will develop conceptual plans including the identification and location of ITS devices, market packages, and communication systems for the segments addressed. Stakeholder input will be sought at every phase of the project to ensure that proposed solutions will be most effective for the Central Arkansas area. The ITS Architecture project for West Memphis, Pine Bluff and Fort Smith will results in regional architectures with website documentation, an ITS deployment plan, and stakeholder workshops for the three areas to encourage local involvement in the decision making process. |
