1.POLA and POLB set to phase out Container Dwell Fee program. The Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) announced that they'll begin planning the phase out of their Container Dwell Fee program, effective January 24, 2023. Going back to the initial announcement of this program in October 2021, POLA and POLB have seen a collective 92% decline in aging cargo on their respective docks. What's more, while the ports' respective executive directors had the authority from their harbor commissions to implement the fee, the fee was never activated, as cargo owners were able to clear their long-dwelling cargo off of their terminals. "I said when we launched this program that I hoped we would never collect a dime because that would mean that containers were moving off our docks-and that's exactly what occurred," said Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka. "I'm grateful to the cargo owners and all our waterfront workers for all their successful efforts to improve the efficiency of our operations." 2.DHL expands Bay Area fleet with new Ford E-Transit vans. Taking steps to hit its goal of operating 60% of its U.S. vehicles electrically, as well as reduce its logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050, global express shipping services provider DHL recently announced that it has added 45 new Ford E-Transit vans in Palo Alto, Calif. DHL said that the new vehicles were expected to be ready for pickup and delivery by late 2022, serving Palo Alto and other areas in close proximity. And the company added that these new vehicles also augment its existing DHL Express U.S. Alternative Fuel Vehicle Fleet, which is comprised of fully electric, hybrid-electric and clean internal combustion varieties as well as electric-assisted e-Cargo Cycles. Looking ahead, DHL plans to order 180 more electric vans by 2024. |
