We see no slowdown in trucking inflation ahead in the near term. Same-month year-ago data, which is a leading indicator, yield this conclusion. Let's look at the past two years: Truckload inflation just hit 31.5%, up from 25.6% in November 2021; 19.3% in May 2021; and 2.4% in November 2020. Over the same incremental time periods, LTL inflation was 20.7%, 13.5%, 7.8%, and negative 0.5%; local trucking was 15.8%, 13.9%, 18.7%, and 0.2%; specialized trucking was 23.3%, 11.6%, 6.6%, and negative 1.3%. With the early warning data widespread, extraordinarily easy to read and as expected, the trucking industry's average annual inflation rate remains at 25% for 2022. |
