long-range planning. However, my engineering background has me coordinating across a number of our efforts. I lead the Project Development efforts for the department, which I try to simply explain as "turning the lines on the map into projects." Most of the work requires our team to interpret the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan, which guides our short- and long-term transportation projects, programs, and investments, and review those goals within the context of our Transportation Criteria Manual, which contains design standards for all transportation facilities. When we fuse the two, we get the network that we want designed in a manner that is safe for everyone, especially our most vulnerable roadway users. Our group's goal is to get from idea to 30 percent conceptual design that staff and the community support, and then we send that to our Project Delivery team for detailed design and construction. |
