ITE JOURNAL: What do you think is the biggest challenge cities and towns face in better managing their transportation corridors? KURTIS MCBRIDE: Public agencies are thinking more and more about the need to solve network-level challenges like congestion, safety and greenhouse gas reduction, but given the proprietary, hardware dominated market paradigm that we operate in, these same agencies often lack the available budget to update their infrastructure at the scale required to address those kinds of challenges. They are forced to adopt incremental approaches, building on what exists today. This approach is often less effective and more costly in the long run when trying to improve performance across the entire traffic network. |
