摘要: ITE JOURNAL: In your career so far, you've participated in a range of projects, from roundabouts and transit to research and traffic operations. What projects have had particular significance for you and why? PURSER: Transportation professionals can better themselves by seeking a range of project opportunities, especially in their early years, to understand the considerations and concerns across specialties and deliver successful, implementable projects to the communities we serve. That being said, much of my work these days focuses on transit-based planning, operations, and design. Many transit agencies have limited funding, and being able to help them determine the most equitable and efficient system is exciting. Transit provides immense relief to populations who have no other means of getting around, particularly in the rural areas I've worked in, and can help communities enhance their health, economic opportunities, and recreational opportunities. Every community is different making working as a consultant for transit agencies a new puzzle with each project. Additionally, many providers haven't been able to update their plans or implement new projects in years, and the influx of Oregon state funding and upcoming national funding provide fantastic opportunities to grow public transportation services. Paired with new technologies and shifting travel need as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, it's an exciting area of transportation to work in.
