On March 12,2020, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada Board of Commissioners approved a pilot project, "Eastern Avenue Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT)" to test and measure the effectiveness of ASCT on Eastern Avenue between Beckler Drive and Pebble Road in Henderson, NV, USA. ASCT refers to technologies that monitor the current traffic demand data and adjust the traffic signal timing to optimize traffic flow and reduce delay in a coordinated manner.1 Unlike traditional traffic signal timing, signals with ASCT can react to the changing traffic conditions on the roadway caused by traffic crashes, special events, road construction, and other roadway incidents in real time. This pilot was performed in partnership with RTC of Southern Nevada, the City of Henderson (CoH), and Clark County (CC), making it the first multi-agency and cross-jurisdictional deployment in ASCT for the State of Nevada. |
