In-use brake-specific mass exhaust emissions rates were determined for a high-speed hydrofoil ferryboat, the WaveRider. This vessel operates between Oceanside and San Diego, CA as a passenger ferrying service for commuters living north of San Diego. The ferry operates a single round-trip service during the weekday, departing from Oceanside in the morning to arrive in San Diego for the morning commute, and then leaving San Diego in the evening for a return trip to Oceanside. The vessel employs a retractable hydrofoil to achieve high speeds. A picture of the WaveRider is shown in Figure 1 with the hydrofoil deployed.
