This report provides the results of our review of the Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) actions to address runway incursions at Boston Logan, Chicago OHare, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles International Airports. Our objectives were to assess the actions taken by FAA to (1) identify and correct the causes of recent runway incursions at those airports and (2) address those issues that could affect safety system-wide. We added Los Angeles International Airport to our review in October 2006 as a result of several serious incidents that occurred at that location between July and September of 2006 and in response to concerns expressed by Senator Barbara Boxer to our office regarding those incidents. Our review, conducted between May 2006 and April 2007, included site visits to those four locations and FAA Headquarters. |
