Trucking prices continued falling in the second quarter of 2023 with deflation rates hitting record lows in June. Truckload prices plummeted 24.7% in June from a year ago. Local general freight, long-distance LTL, and tanker and other special trucking services dropped by 17.6%, 11.5%, and 3%, respectively. Aggregating to the total trucking industry, we see that in the entire three month period ending June 2022, average industry prices slumped to a record-breaking negative 7.8%. That's a big change from the record-high 25.6% inflation rate recorded only 16 months earlier. The current deflation rate will slow through 2023 and then inflation should resume in 2024. |
