Our community has lost a fierce proponent of transportation change, and of roundabouts specifically. Tony Redington dedicated his life to ensuring that transportation systems were safe and equitable. His professional career spanned positions at the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, the New Hampshire Housing Commission, and the Vermont Agency of Transportation. While his activism within the agencies was not always welcome, it was in retirement that he became freer to advocate for better transport solutions. While the sheer impact of Tony's passion and efforts cannot be known, his legacy includes getting the northeast's first modem roundabout approved and built (Keck Circle in Montpelier, VT in 1995) and suing the City of Burlington, VT over the proposed four-lane auto-centric Champlain Parkway. Tony was a courageous champion, committed to challenging established practices in a field where that is not easy to do. Tony remained active sharing his passion and knowledge even while battling cancer. While his fight with cancer is over, his legacy in Vermont and throughout the northeast is long-lasting. Thank you, Tony. |
