In partnership with Metro, the City of Lancaster has built a Traffic Management Center (TMC) in City Hall. The TMC will serve as the nerve center for Lancaster's road management and collect data from the 140+ signalized intersections. The data is used to improve traffic throughout the City of Lancaster. Bringham Young University's (BYU) College of Fine Arts and Communications is going through a renovation. BYU decided to use Provo High School as temporary housing for the college. Because of this change, roughly 800 students to have to cross a high-volume, high-speed main arterial road on daily basis. Provo City took the below short-term measures to provide students with a safer crossing: 1.Closed the second free flow lane to shorten walking distance 2.Installed proper signage to raise awareness 3.Installed two pedestrian hybrid beacons with pedestrian crossing buttons 4.Installed temporary rubber curbing to close the second free-flow lane 5. Installed traffic delineators to raise awareness 6.Updated striping. |
