Activities in ITE Districts and Sections provide valuable networking and learning opportunities for ITE members and are fundamental to the ITE experience. When both transportation planners and engineers convene to discuss transportation and learn from one another, especially at the local level, their ability to improve their project management skills and deliver projects that have more positive impacts in our communities is the result. The Florida Puerto Rico District (FLPRITE) has a history of supporting planner engagement in their programming, networking, and in their leadership. The District has a Transportation Planning and Mobility Council led by Bob Agrusa, P.E., PTOE (M), which focuses on integrating planning topics into meetings. Although an engineer by profession, Agrusa, as well as other members of the Council, have worked on a myriad of planning-related projects over his career and has made it a priority to incorporate these elements into the Council presentations.Their District meetings bring planners and engineers together with content of interest for both, presented by both. Because the District has taken steps to become AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certified, transportation planners can get Certification Maintenance (CM) credits at some of their meetings. In addition, the District has supported planners in leadership with their last three ITE International Board of Direction representatives with planner responsibilities. |
