摘要: Engineers, who have traditionally been the core of ITE, have a reputation as being masters of the details. You are well-versed in the intricacies of traffic signal controllers, work zone traffic control, geometric design, or other specialties. It's likely that you chose engineering as a profession because you are an expert problem solver, able to understand the nuances of technical situations, evaluate alternatives, and choose the optimal solution. You may have been presented a project from your jurisdiction's transportation master plan and thought, "If I had been consulted during the planning stage, I could have made this project better." There are plenty of planners in ITE, too. If you are a planner reading this, how does your profession differ from engineering? Planners tend to take a longer view, looking more at the big picture than at specific details. You may also be an expert problem solver- most planners are-but you're more comfortable looking at broader, more comprehensive challenges. You may have seen a built project that came from a plan that you wrote. It differed from the intent of the plan, and you thought,"If I had been involved as this project moved from planning into design, I could have helped the engineers understand commitments that were made to the public."
