The Crash Avoidance Metrics Partnership (CAMP) was formed between Ford and General Motors to accelerate the implementation of crash avoidance countermeasures in passenger cars to improve traffic safety. The CAMP partnership is engaged in cooperative research with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to advance light-vehicle safety research. The USDOT and the Vehicle Safety Communications 2 Consortium (VSC 2 Consortium) Mercedes-Benz (MB), Ford, General Motors (GM), Honda, and Toyota have initiated a three-year collaborative effort in the area of wireless-based safety applications under the Vehicle Safety Communications Applications (VSC- A) project. The goal of VSC-A is to develop and test communications-based vehicle safety systems to determine if dedicated short-range communications at 5.9 GHz, in combination with vehicle positioning can improve upon autonomous vehicle-based safety systems and enable new communications-based safety applications. |
