In 2007, as compared to 2006, the overall fatality rate declined from 1.42 to 1.36 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel (VMT). From 2006 to 2007, the alcohol-impaired driving fatality rate declined in 32 States and remained the same or increased in the remaining 18 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. In all 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico it is illegal to drive a vehicle or operate a motorcycle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or above. This research note presents, by State, fatality rates in all crashes as well as alcohol-impaired driving crashes. |
