Enactment of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in November 2021 represents a historic investment in federal highway, transit, highway safety, and rail programs. Projects funded through the law will provide benefits to communities
across the country. However, in addition to the federal resources provided by the IIJA, state-level investment remains essential to the delivery of a safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation system. Historically, the federal government provides about a quarter of all funding for highways and transit systems each year, with state and local governments contributing the remainder. |
