ITE JOURNAL: You are completing a Ph.D. program. Why did you choose to pursue the doctorate after completing both your bachelor's and master's in the same field?
CECILIA KADEHA: I would say part of it was curiosity. I have always wanted to get a Ph.D.
My undergraduate degree was in Civil Engineering, majoring in building construction, but I took transportation courses along the way, and my final year project was on public transportation. After graduation, I worked on construction projects for a good year. I later realized that I was very passionate about transportation and decided to carve my career in the field. When I got the chance to pursue a Ph.D. and work as a research assistant, I believed it would be a good opportunity to work on more transportation projects interacting with people from the Department of Transportation and consulting companies while expanding my professional network. In addition to technical skills, a Ph.D. is more about determination, endurance, and personal growth, which I have been able to experience so far. I also knew it would give me a competitive advantage in the industry. |
