The tank truck Industry is fast approaching a tipping point on the road to "Zero emissions" that threatens to upend the segment's ability to continue contributing to this country's success-and an escape ramp is nowhere in sight. I've talked to many fleets over the last several months, and they've all expressed similar concerns, from the feasibility of electric vehicles in bulk operations, to the colossal cost of alternative-fuel tractors and tank trailers, and the true meaning of zero emissions. But it seems the only people the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is listening to are politicians ruling over the People's Republic of California. Now National Tank Truck Carriers is amplifying members' voices in a move it hopes leads to more "reasonable" clean-technology timelines. NTTC on March 23 joined American Trucking Associations, the Truckload Carriers Association, American Truck Dealers, and the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association to form the Clean Freight Coalition, which aims to set pragmatic expectations for supply chain decar-bonization-if it's not already too late. |
