"This business means everything to me," Warren said. "It's something that my grandfather and my father gave everything to build. "They laid a great foundation, and I plan on passing it to my sons." To do so, he has to finish guiding the family's companies through a trying era defined by a global pandemic that forced an estimated one-third of all small businesses in the U.S. to close their doors-many of which never reopened. So far, so great for the still-growing group of tank truck companies. Transportation challenges exacerbated by the ongoing health crisis include driver and mechanic shortages, supply-chain constraints, and cybersecurity breaches. But Al Warren and Altom not only evaded those traps, they thrived, adding two new locations in Louisiana, and growing combined revenues by 20% in 2021.
